Fitness instructors know first hand that participation in any of the popular Latin dance classes offered today require the correct Zumba shoes to achieve the best workout without injury. Traditional dance shoes will not have enough support for your feet. You see, the Zumba aerobic training comes from the combination of fitness and dancing movements designed to produce both fun and weight loss.
The correct footwear will be both comfortable and lightweight which allows the body to move correctly as you go through a typical Zumba cardio class. The right shoes will give your feet the necessary traction and cushioning to reduce any excessive impact to the dancer's legs or knees.
And sometimes there are special considerations such as the need for a wide fitting athletic shoe to wear while you exercise. The sole of the sneaker must deliver just the right amount of grip without being overly sticky. Too much grip on the floor will actually prevent you from performing some of the exciting Zumba dance steps that are a standard part of our classes.
One of our favorite brands comes from the good people at Ryka, a shoe maker that delivers high quality fitness and aerobic shoes that are perfect for any Latin dancing style. The salsa music we hear so frequently inspires many of the moves and techniques that require the right selection of shock reducing footwear. Nike also makes a good dance shoe that includes their Shox model. If you've ever twisted your knee or suffered a hair line fracture, you'll begin to understand why we stress the importance of stable footwear. It's so easy to turn your ankle or damage your hip and other joints if you're not careful. Look for smooth soles - less tread is better. And don't forget the lateral side to side support you'll need during class as well.
So why has this Zumba movement become so popular? We think it's because the fitness routines work major muscle groups and at the same time it uses dance styles that incorporate the tango, samba, cumbia, and merengue. We can thank Beto Perez, the creative fitness instructor from Colombia, for creating Zumba. Back in the mid 1990's, Beto had to improvise during one of his dance classes when he forgot to bring his standard aerobics music. Using what he had with him at the time, he conducted his class by playing Latin salsa music instead. By the middle of 2005, Beto's fitness craze had expanded to over 100 countries around the world.
Everyone wanted to be part of his big Zumba dance parties, burn calories and have fun too. Now "toning classes" are being incorporated into many of the fitness gyms around the United States. The dance moves actually cover up the other workout movements so that you don't even realize that you're exercising at the same time. And certified instructors will tell you that you don't even have to know how to dance. Some of the newer people feel a little self conscious the first time they come. But all they need to do is just follow along. Don't worry if you don't get the right steps. Just strap on your favorite zumba shoes and make up your own dance steps if you have to.
Zumba dancing is exploding world wide today. Get faster results with the right Zumba shoes - right now.
